Edward Johnson was the eldest son of Swedish immigrants John A. Johnson and Margaret “Maggie” H. Johanssen. Born in Wabasha County, Minnesota, on October 3, 1882, he moved west with his parents as an infant. The family settled in the Lone Rock area of Seabeck, Kitsap County, Washington, where his father established a 74-acre homestead.

Edward grew up on the shores of the Hood Canal and remained a lifelong resident of the Seabeck area. Following the early death of his younger brother, Albin, in 1901, Edward became the sole surviving child of the family. While he continued to live on and help manage the family farm, he also made his living as a logger, a prominent trade in the burgeoning Pacific Northwest timber industry.

Edward never married and remained on the family property until his later years. He saw both of his parents through their final illnesses in the mid-1920s. Following their deaths, he continued to reside near the homestead until his own health began to fail.

Edward passed away on November 4, 1930, at the Bremerton City Hospital following a lingering illness identified as Bright’s Disease. His passing was noted in the Bremerton Daily News Searchlight

4 November 1930.
